About Roomster

Roomster, founded in 2003 and based in New York City, connects people and makes the experience of sharing a home easy and safe.

One thing that makes roomster unique is its two-sided marketplace, where users can find Rooms, Entire Place, Roommates and also add a listing for their room/apartment/home as Tenants.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Wearing a lot of hats and sometimes finding scrappy ways to get things done

As a UI/UX designer I am helping and collaborating in the below broad areas, where 70% of my time goes in the UI/UX initiatives and rest of the time in the other areas of product strategy, user-testing, marketing initiative with collaboration not only with engineers and designers, but also our operational team.

LEARNINGS

Everyday is a learning!!

  • Getting feedback from everyday design meetings improved my design
  • Presenting my work everyday helped to gain communication skills and also skills to convince people about the various design decisions
  • Learnt to manage time in the fast-paced environment
  • Learnt to handle bigger responsibilities in short span of time
  • Evolved as designer who can think both from the perspective of design and business needs

Analyzing my journey so far..:)

Working as a UI/UX designer, especially in a startup comes with it own advantages and disadvantages. You get to handle a lot of responsibilities and your work is not focused in a single area. You need to adjust in the fast-paced environment and wear many hats per need basis. I also felt that you need to figure out things on your own as there is little guidance provided. Time management is also crucial as we always face resource crunch.
